In the morning, departure on foot for a traditional breakfast: Pho. Then a stroll through the old quarter.

A cooking lesson with a Vietnamese family. You'll start by accompanying them to the market, a place full of encounters, to choose the ingredients you need to prepare the dishes you'll taste at lunchtime.
In the afternoon, you will visit the house on stilts, the pagoda with the single pillar and the Temple of Literature, "the first university in Vietnam".

Dinner at leisure. Night at the hotel.

Ba Be

Breakfast followed by a drive to Ba Be National Park, 260 km from Hanoi.
Lunch on the way. The site, one of the most beautiful in Vietnam, is a superb region of mountains and tropical forest, a paradise for trekking enthusiasts and a privileged place for contact with the Tay and Dao minorities. On arrival at the park, a boat will take you across the lake to the boatmen's village. Settle into a traditional house on stilts, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Visit to a school then an easy walk around Ba Be

The day begins with a visit to a village nursery or primary school. We then set off on an easy 4-5 hour hike to meet the ethnic minorities living in the region. Stops along the way to enjoy waterfalls and picnics, then return to the boatmen's village.

Possible activities:

In the fields: Cultivation of young plants, flowers. Work in the fields for rice cultivation or maintenance of growing plants. Of course the villagers are experienced in working in the fields and rice paddies, but their extreme poverty does not allow them to hire help. Perhaps you will feel useless when you first enter the rice field, but your help will allow us to intensify the harvesting surface (since the creation of the association, we have doubled the surface area of the rice fields exploited by the village).
In families: Helping families by teaching basic principles of hygiene and domestic safety through practical situations. Provision and use of antiseptic products for daily use.
Sports activities: Organisation of an inter-village sports tournament (football) OR Setting up a volleyball court (posts and net, tracing, levelling), matches with the local population.

Day 6

Kayak trip from Ba Be

Kayak trip from Ba Be

Early in the morning, a boat will take you to the other side of the lake, before you continue your excursion by kayak for a gentle visit and access to more remote parts of the lake.
Without leaving the unforgettable scenery behind, you have lunch at Ong Pirate before getting back in the kayaks for a few hours. In the late afternoon, the boat picks you up on the lake and guides you to a secluded spot for a swim in the calm waters.
Dinner and overnight at a local house in the boatmen's village.

Day 7

Back to Hanoi

Back to Hanoi

Breakfast in the village, then return to Hanoi. Lunch on the way and arrival in Hanoi in the late afternoon.

Check-in at your hotel. Dinner on your own. Night at the hotel.

Day 8

Halong

In the morning, you set off for Halong, arriving around midday. Board the junk, welcome drink and presentation of the cruise programme. Settle into your cabin where you can freshen up. Lunch is served on board.
Relax on deck and admire the many different-shaped islands and islets in the bay. Towards mid-afternoon, you will discover the Thien Canh Son cave, then the island of Hon Co where you can relax on the beach, swim or kayak in the surrounding area.

Day 9

Vung Vieng, Hanoi

Return to Hanoi then cross North Vietnam by night train to Hué

We advise you to wake up at dawn to enjoy the bay. The junk heads for the fishing village of Vung Vieng. You will meet the village children and have the opportunity to help collect rubbish. Light lunch on board.

Disembarkation and return to Hanoi. In the evening, transfer to Hanoi station for the train journey across North Vietnam to Hué. Picnic dinner on board the train and overnight in the air-conditioned cabin with 4 soft beds.

Day 10

Hue

Visit to Hue

Transfer from the station to the hotel. Breakfast and free time. Cycle rickshaw tour of the Citadel, built between 1805 and 1832. It covers an area of 5.2 km2 and its architecture is reminiscent of oriental citadels with a touch of French inspiration! At the end of the day, visit Dong Ba market before returning to the hotel.

Day 11

Phu Mong, Lang Cô, Da Nang, Hoi An

In the morning, we suggest you explore Hue and the surrounding countryside by bicycle as far as the village of Phu Mong. Stop en route to visit a house with a typical Hue garden. The level of cycling is very easy, so don't hesitate! The ride continues to the Thien Mu pagoda and continues with a boat cruise to the Minh Mang Mausoleum.
Afternoon drive to Hoi An via the Cloud Pass. Enjoy the superb panoramic view over the bay. There will be several stops en route, including one at Lang Cô beach, then on to Da Nang to visit the Cham museum.

Arrive in Hoi An and check into your hotel. Free meal. Night at the hotel.

Tra Que

In the morning, take a bike ride to visit the vegetable village of Tra Que. Tra Que is renowned for its aromatic herbs, in particular mint and basil. This ride will give you an insight into the life of the growers and introduce you to their techniques. You'll discover the work involved in digging and picking the vegetables.
Lunch with a tasting of the village's famous speciality, "Tam Huu": an assortment of prawns, pork and aromatic herbs accompanied by six other dishes of regional specialities.
Return to Hoi An. Visit of the city, and in particular: the Japanese bridge, the Chinese temple, the house of Tan Ky,...

Free dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Comfort

Accommodation with local people, in communal rooms, in a traditional house on stilts and in selected 3* and 4* hotels - double room basis.

Climate and equipment

The best time to visit Vietnam is between November and April. The climate will be drier in the north and south. For the centre, wait until February to avoid the rains. Around the end of January is a period to be avoided because of the Vietnamese New Year, which is the high tourist season. What's more, the north can be cold in the depths of winter.

Health

No compulsory vaccination. Must be up to date with vaccinations.
Recommended vaccination: Hepatitis A.
Water: drink only bottled mineral water.

PASSPORT & VISAS

PASSPORT: The expiry date of the French passport must be at least 6 months before the end date of the stay in Vietnam.
VISA: A visa is necessary to stay in Vietnam. It can be requested from the Vietnamese Embassy in Paris or on the spot on presentation of the invitation we will have sent you.
