Optional: "THE TRIATHLON": Departure by vehicle to the site of El Angosto, the viewpoint of Entre Ríos and La Torre. Then direction Quebrada Seca, where we discover beautiful coloured canyons. Walk in the middle of the canyons. Lunch of Tamales. Horseback riding. Climb by 4×4 vehicle to the Quebrada. Descent to Tupiza by mountain bike with 800 m of difference in altitude in a sumptuous landscape (Spanish-speaking guide).

Departure for the highlands of the Altiplano. We go up through the Quebrada de Palala and the Sillar site. Crossing of wild and desert areas far from the tourist circuits. Visit of the museum relating the legend of Butch Cassidy and Billy the Kid in the village of San Vicente (4500 m alt.). Crossing the village of San Pablo de Lipez before arriving at the end of the day in San Antonio de Lipez. Approximately 7 hours of transport with a Spanish-speaking driver-guide (French-speaking optional). Night in a refuge. Meals included. Entrance fees to sites included.

Departure towards the west with a stop at the village of San Antonio del Nuevo Mundo (4680 m alt.), suddenly abandoned due to a plague epidemic. We pass by the strange geological formation of the "Torreón", then we cross a pass located at 4850 m alt. before descending to the Morejón Lagoon. A short diversions to the beautiful Laguna Celeste. Arrival at the end of the day in the village of Quetena. Approximately 6 hours of transport with a Spanish-speaking driver-guide (French-speaking optional). Night in a refuge. Meals included. Morning departure by 4×4 to reach the Uturuncu Volcano. Drive up the old mining track. The vehicle can drop us off (depending on snow conditions) at the highest point at 5700m. Climb the last 300m on a large steep scree. Departure for the Laguna Verde. Stop at the thermal waters of Polques and cross the "Dali desert". Arrival at Laguna Verde at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano. Reception in the afternoon at the Chilean border of Hito Cajon by your Chilean driver, and transfer to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. Approximately 5 hours of transport. Spanish speaking driver (French speaking optional except in Chile). Night in a hotel*** of our selection. Meals included. Entrance fees to sites included.

We head due north. We pass several magnificent lagoons: Honda, Ch'arkota, Hedionda (4500 m alt.) and Cañapa. On the way, a stop at the viewpoint of the Ollagüe volcano before arriving in San Juan in the late afternoon. Visit to the mummy site and the small museum. Arrival around 06:00 in the morning. Reception at the bus terminal. Then on to the small Aymara village of Tuni at the foot of the Condoriri massif. Meet the families of the community. In the afternoon, activities in the village: introduction to the weaving technique, looking for llamas and alpacas in the fields... Spanish-speaking driver and local guides. Night at the village eco-lodge. Meals included except lunch.

Several activities are on offer in the Tuni community: hike to the Chiarkhota Lagoon (base camp of the Condoriri and Pequeño Alpamayo), trout fishing, visit to the village school, make chuño (dehydrated potatoes)... Help with the preparation of a typical Andean lunch. Musical evening with a group from the neighbouring village of Chuñawi. Meals included and overnight stay in the community.

Traditional breakfast including buñelos (a type of doughnut) and api (a drink made from purple corn). Activities linked to community life (harvesting in the fields, llamas, etc.). Climate and equipment

The climate varies from region to region: in the Altiplano, the high altitude means that temperatures are very cold at night during the dry season, between May and October, but fairly mild during the day.
The eastern plains can experience torrid periods during the wet season, between November and March. Flash floods occur almost everywhere in the wet season.
The best time to travel is during the dry season (May to October).
Be sure to bring special cold-weather gear, including duvets.
