Climate and equipment

The seasons are reversed:
Johannesburg, with its good climate, can be visited all year round, perhaps with the exception of June, July and early August because of the risk of cold weather. The best month is probably September: mild, sunny and with little rain.
Home to elephants, lions and other savannah animals, the Kruger National Park lies on the border with Mozambique, most of it at an altitude of between 300 and 500 metres.
The climate in Kimberley, the capital of the Northern Cape province, situated 1,200 metres above sea level, is characterised by very hot summers and less rain than in Johannesburg.
Bloemfontein, situated at 1,400 metres to the south-east of Kimberley, is on average slightly cooler.

Health

Be in possession of a certificate of good physical health.
No vaccinations required
Recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A, B and typhoid.
Anti-malarial treatment recommended.
Water: drink only bottled mineral water.
