Historic North and Simien
Ethiopia

Adventure

Participatory

Tailor-made

The aim of this tour is to promote tourism based on exchanges, shared moments and respect. You will have the opportunity to discover Ethiopia through authentic encounters with local people. Through this trip, you will be associated with an educational or socio-economic development project.
In partnership with local associations, you will discover not only the historical sites, but also the people and their way of life, their religious rites... Ethiopia has one of the most fascinating histories and cultures. We'll discover the Aksum Stelae, the Simien Mountains, the medieval castles of Gondar and the troglodyte churches of Tigray and Lalibela. Obviously, a trip to Ethiopia is an adventure. Tourist infrastructure is very limited and comfort is basic. Little visited, still marked by recent history, Ethiopia nevertheless welcomes travellers with a great sense of hospitality.

Our opinion

This trip allows you to immerse yourself in the local population and visit the country's UNESCO sites.

The + humans trip

- Meet the unique community of Awara Amba: This village was born of a dream by Zumra Nuru in 1972 to solve socio-economic problems by helping each other, in a spirit of equality and free from sexism, breaking with the traditions of the Amhara people. They all have different cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds, but they all share the same ideals, which they put into practice every day.

- Meeting with the women from the SOC DE CHARRUE training centre: they are also taking management courses designed to help them run the family farm. At the same time, they take part in educational discussions on hygiene, disease, balanced nutrition and bringing up children.

- Meet the EOC-CFAO association: Founded in 1974 to help and support orphans and destitute children, the association has around 18 aid centres and orphanages in the country.

- Meeting with the Potières de Ketchene association: Thanks to the work of the women in this association, pottery has been (re)empowered as an essential activity in the life of the community at Ketchene Medhane Alem, generating income among one of the poorest groups.
