Climate and equipment

South India has a wonderful climate from January to March. Whether you are on the west coast or on the southern tip of the east coast, there is very little rain and the sun shines and the heat is comfortable. Temperatures range from 20°C in the morning to 29°C during the day.
Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured, covering clothing impregnated with insecticide textile treatment (effective for two months and resistant to washing) and use skin repellents.
In order to avoid attracting the attention of Indian men and to blend in, it is advisable not to wear tight-fitting clothes, plunging necklines, short skirts - mini shorts, tank tops.
Take a stole, a large scarf to protect yourself from dust, and cover your shoulders if it is a bit cool. A hat or cap and sunglasses during the day will help you avoid the sometimes insistent looks of men.
Bring a jacket for the evenings as the nights can be chilly.
For electricity, the voltage is 220 volts. The plugs are comparable to those in France but there may be larger plugs. In this case, bring a standard adapter. You should also bring a small torch.

Health

It is advisable for the trip to have up-to-date vaccinations.
Here is the information for the state of vaccination recommended by the Pasteur Institute and the French diplomatic service. ( diplomatie.gouv.fr) The governmental site informs you about security, health, transport and legislation/Us/customs.
-No vaccination is compulsory
-) However, updating the diphtheria-tetanus-polio (DTP) vaccination is recommended to include Rubella, Mumps and Measles in children.
Boosters for the DTP are now recommended at age 25, 45, 65 and every 10 years from age 65.
-) tuberculosis vaccination is also recommended.
-) For malaria, no risk in Kerala
Water: drink only bottled mineral water.
More information on the Pasteur website.
