Comfort

Guesthouses and boutique lodges often offer more attractive rates than hotels.

However, they do not offer the same type of service as in classified accommodation, with the exception of some guesthouses which are real gems.

Within these "fare" (house in Tahitian), proximity to the Polynesians and their way of life is the order of the day.

The managers offer lovers of Polynesia the privilege of a unique experience: to get to know the inside of a way of life - to live the daily life of the inhabitants in all simplicity. Go fishing with the men of the house, have breakfast Tahitian style with raw fish in coconut milk, go fishing for "pahua" (clams), discover secret places, etc.

As true wells of knowledge of Tahiti and Her Islands, they will share with their guests their knowledge of the history of the islands, the Polynesian legends, etc.

These charming guesthouses and boutique lodges with a limited number of units are mostly nestled in beautiful natural settings with lush tropical gardens and beautiful views of the lagoon.

Some islands have only this type of accommodation.

Climate and equipment

In French Polynesia, temperatures vary between 24°C and 32°C all year round and the water in the lagoons varies between 23°C and 26°C.

Two seasons punctuate the lives of Polynesians: a wet season from November to March and a dry season from April to October.

The dry season is cooler with temperatures fluctuating between 24°C and 28°C (July and August are the coolest months).

However, each archipelago has its own specific characteristics. For example, the Tuamotu atolls are less affected by the rainy season due to the absence of mountains. In the Austral Islands, temperatures are cooler than in any of the other archipelagos, dropping to as low as 10°C between April and October. The Marquesas archipelago, which is furthest north of Tahiti, can experience periods of drought from August to December.

The wet season (or rainy season) is, as its name suggests, the period when humidity levels are highest and rainfall most abundant.

For activities on the beach or in the sea...Don't forget your swimming costume(s), hat, flip-flops, sun cream and after-sun lotion, and sunglasses.

You can also buy a beautiful pareu at the market or in a shop.

For excursions in the mountains or valleys...Bring walking shoes. It is also possible to find in Tahiti and in the rest of the world

some islands, plastic sandals, which are certainly devoid of charm, especially when worn with socks to

to avoid unfortunate blisters, but are very practical for walking in rivers, on rocky paths, etc.

Ordinary tennis shoes are often not suited to the terrain of our mountainous islands and it would be a shame to slip and hurt yourself during your stay.

When it comes to clothing, we recommend sports shorts and T-shirts that won't be too heavy when wet.

For city walks...Keep it casual, with light dresses for the women and shorts and t-shirts for the men.

You should also choose a light pair of shoes, or even flip-flops.

To go out for dinner...A dress will be comfortable for women, while lightweight trousers and a shirt are perfect for men.

All in all, it's important to remember that light clothes are best for the day and a little jumper for the evenings.

For all electronic equipment, accommodation in Tahiti and Her Islands is equipped with 110 or 220 volts.

However, you should check with reception or the manager if this is not mentioned in your room.

What's more, the weight and number of baggage items are regulated by the airline you choose to fly to French Polynesia.

Formalities

Ensure that each passport is valid.

All French nationals, adults and children or babies, must hold a passport valid for 6 months after the date of return.

Nationals of countries covered by the Visa Waiver Programme must complete the ESTA travel authorisation form online for each person, adult and child or baby, at least 72 hours before departure.

Compliance with current health regulations. Covid insurance is strongly recommended.
