Following the major floods that hit the capital in 1959, many families and children found themselves on the streets. A group of Swiss social workers came up with the idea of taking in these children in a centre they named Akany Avoko (nest followed by the name of a flower).

Over the past 50 years, thousands of children between the ages of 1 month and 18 years have been taken in at this centre. There are currently 120 children in the centre. Most of them are girls from very difficult social backgrounds, who end up at the association following a court judgement.

The Maisons Familiales Rurales are ideal structures for supporting young people and adults in their social and professional integration into rural life. Most of them focus on agricultural training.

The idea is to develop a space for cultural and social promotion.

Even if the vocation of the Maison Familiale Fi is no longer focused on training young people, it has borrowed the spirit of these houses through the importance of "living together", the importance of solidarity, the role of the family (parents) in the structure to consolidate the link:

"Maison" because we live together, in one house,
"Family" because the parents are responsible for the running of the centre.

At the Maison familiale Fi, you'll feel this desire to act for a world that is more united, more responsible and closer to people's needs.
