Arrival in Bogotá and transfer to the Hotel de l'Opéra or similar.

Welcome cocktail and check-in at the hotel.

Cultural immersion in Bogota

The morning is devoted to a visit to the historic centre of La Candelaria, followed by a meeting with the "breaking border" group from the Egipto Alto neighbourhood, which we will visit after the "chorro de Quevedo", the very place where the city was founded.

Continuation of the visit to the Gold Museum and the Botero Foundation. This museum houses archaeological collections that are the heritage and pride of all Colombians.

In the afternoon, weather permitting, visit the Mirador del Monserrate, located 3200m above the city and accessible by cable car. Here you can admire a panoramic view of the city and part of the Andes mountains.

In the evening, you will head to the town of Chia, just a few kilometres north of Bogotá, for dinner in a traditional restaurant.

Day 3

Bogota , Leticia , Puerto Nariño

Off to the airport for your flight to Leticia, capital of the Amazonas department, at the crossroads of three countries: Colombia, Brazil and Peru.

On arrival in Leticia, you will embark on the Amazon River for the town of Puerto Nariño, 2 hours away (this is a municipality in the Amazon where it is forbidden to travel by car or motorbike). On the way, you can visit the monkey island for a fee of around 10$. The town is renowned throughout Colombia for its ecological initiatives.

In the evening, over dinner, you'll have the chance to talk to Tikuna grandmothers about their traditions.

Day 4

Puerto Nariño

Immersion in the jungle

Departure for an approximately 3-hour walk (with planned stops) to the community of San Martin de Amacayacu through the virgin forest. We will cross Amacayacu National Park, travelling through the jungle on remarkable rivers.

Arrive at the community and meet grandparents and children to share their knowledge of medicinal plants and their uses in traditional community life. A clay workshop will round off this meeting. Lessons on the use of plants.

Return to Puerto Nariño.

Day 5

Mocagua

Meeting with the Mocaguas

Breakfast followed by a walk to the Yagua ethnic group's wood craft centre. Continue by pirogue to the Mocagua community. Visit to the community, which is involved in the Amazon Gastronomy project. Lunch in the community, tour of the village and painting, fabric and blowpipe activities. Then off to the Maikunchinga project run by biologist Sarah Benneth, which protects and rehabilitates monkeys.

Day 6

Calanoa , Leticia , Bogota

Back to the capital

Back to the capital

Visit to the Leticia market square. Return to Bogotá and afternoon at leisure.

Traditional dinner in the Candelaria district (e.g. the typical chicken Ajiaco) and overnight at the hotel.

Day 7

Bogota , Pitalito

Mysteries in San Augustin

Mysteries in San Augustin

Transfer to the airport to board your flight to Pitalito.

Arrival and transfer to San Augustin, a town at an altitude of 1,695 metres with a temperate climate and an average temperature of 18°C. San Augustin is one of Colombia's most enigmatic sites, haunted by strange statues, vestiges of civilisations that disappeared long before the Incas. A visit to a plantation and organic coffee tasting are planned.

Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight at the hotel, located near the archaeological park and surrounded by a vast garden. Enjoy the charm of its natural decor and subdued lighting.

Day 8

San Augustin

Archaeology in San Augustin

Visit to San Augustin Archaeological Park, Mesita A, B, C and Alto Lavapatas. Lunch in a typical Huila restaurant (typical meal: sancocho).

The afternoon is devoted to a visit to the archaeological sites of La Chaquira and El Tablon. The sculptures, with their softened shapes and similarities to the landscape, inspire an unfamiliar sensation, somewhere between curiosity and fascination. San Augustin eludes any definitive archaeological classification. Research is still ongoing, complementing or contradicting each other, making this a unique, bewitching and mysterious place.

Day 9

San Augustin, Popayán

Excursion to Popayán

Departure for Popayán in the morning. On the way, visit the Strait of Magdalena, Colombia's longest river, only one metre wide.

Continuing on to Isnos, where we will visit the High Idols and have another opportunity to appreciate the sculptures of the Augustinian culture. After a 4-5 hour drive through a magnificent national park, we arrive in Popayán.

Lunch in a traditional Colombian restaurant. In the afternoon, a tour of the city, with its colonial quarter, churches and the Humilladero bridge (bridge of the humble) steeped in history. Many volcanoes are still active in the region. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10

Popayán, Cali , Silvia , Cartagena

Travel and cultural exchanges

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, departure to visit the indigenous population of Silvia, where you can see and talk about Guambiana culture. A unique cultural exchange!

Afterwards, a visit to a local Indian hospital specialising in traditional medicine, where you can learn more about the local health system. Then a visit to a fish farm and, if we have enough time, a visit to a local school. Typical lunch (Trucha: local fish) with a local guide.

Then departure for Cali (9 km from Palmira), flight to Cartagena, famous for its 11 km of city walls. Transfer to the hotel and dinner in a typical restaurant.

Breakfast at the hotel. Then departure for a City Tour: Visit the Popa and San Filipe castles, then head for the Boquilla district for lunch in the company of local fishermen. After lunch, stroll around this remarkable city of colonial charm, accompanied by local Zenù guides. Visit the most important sites, classified by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage List.

Cartagena is a city painted in a stunning range of ochre and pastel colours. It's a museum city, where the flower-decked streets with their sculpted balconies are an enchanting sight for walkers, who end their stroll at the port to witness the apotheosis of a magnificent sunset... which the spectators applaud!

Possibility of taking part in a salsa class in a typical bar (drinks not included). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 12

Cartagena , Isla grande

Departure for Isla Grande, part of Islas del Rosario, also known as Corales Islas del Rosario, an archipelago off the coast of Colombia, approximately 100 kilometres from Cartagena. Relax on the beach.

Return to Cartagena. Typical "despedida" dinner at the Maria Mulata restaurant.

Breakfast at the hotel. Final shopping, city tour and packing. Lunch at leisure.

Transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Bogota.

Climate and equipment

Close to the equator, temperatures in Colombia are very stable throughout the year.
The dry and rainy seasons vary from region to region. Generally, it rains in Colombia in April-May and October-November.
The climate varies from region to region. It is tropical-humid on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and in the Amazon. The heat is more intense on the plains than in Bogotá, where the climate is more temperate. Temperatures can become extreme in near-desert areas, such as Guajira, or in the mountains, particularly at altitudes of over 3,000 metres.

Health

Travelling abroad means taking certain health precautions. The section below lists the essential precautions. However, these precautions do not exempt travellers from consulting their GP and/or a hospital specialising in travel medicine prior to departure (and well in advance of departure, to allow time for any vaccination reminders).

Formalities

Tourists with a return ticket can obtain a 90-day visa on arrival at the airport. This visa can be renewed by paying a fee to the Aliens Department (Dirección de Extranjería).
The Colombian authorities impose heavy fines on illegal travellers, including those who enter the country on a tourist visa and engage in lucrative activities.
