Comfort

Accommodation : Guest houses, comfortable campsites, homestays... or similar.
The choice of accommodation encourages local encounters while preserving your comfort.

Climate and equipment

Because of its vast size, South Africa has very different weather patterns. The seasons are reversed in relation to the northern hemisphere.
From November to March, it's summer in South Africa, an ideal time to visit the Cape regions and the sides bordered by the Atlantic and Indian oceans. During this period, the provinces of Kwazulu Natal and Mpumalanga become very hot, but April and May are the best time to discover the wildlife. From June to August, winter sets in, with temperatures dropping significantly in the early morning and evening.
However, South Africa is an accessible destination all year round and the best time to visit will depend on the activities you plan to do there (safari, water sports, whale watching, etc.).

Health

No vaccination is compulsory.
However, we recommend that you are up-to-date against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and poliomyelitis, hepatitis A and B, measles and, depending on the length and type of trip, typhoid and rabies.
Other important precautions: Depending on where you are travelling in South Africa, treatment for malaria may be advisable.
Avoid drinking tap water and do not use ice cubes.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers coming from an infected area (the measure also applies to anyone who has spent more than twelve hours in transit in one of the countries at risk). This vaccination, which does not apply to children under the age of one, must have been given 10 days before entering South Africa.
These countries are
In Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togo, Uganda.
Outside Africa: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela.
Any traveller affected by this compulsory yellow fever vaccination requirement who fails to comply will be refused entry to South Africa by the local authorities.
Yellow fever is very strongly recommended if you are going to Victoria Falls (be careful about the delay, you need to have it done at least 10 days before departure, or even 3 weeks if possible).

Formalities

PASSPORT & VISAS
For nationals of the European Union, Switzerland and Canada, the passport is compulsory and must be valid for 6 months after your return and contain at least two consecutive blank pages. You must also be in possession of a return or onward ticket. For a tourist stay of less than 3 months, citizens of the European Union, Switzerland and Canada do not need a visa. A 90-day residence permit will be issued at the border on entry to South Africa.
For Lesotho and Swaziland, no visa is required for a stay of less than 30 days. You will be issued with an entry visa free of charge at the border.
With children :
Under local regulations governing the entry and exit of minors, whether foreigners or South Africans, which have been in force since 1 June 2015, all parents are required to present proof of their parent-child relationship with their children, both when entering and leaving South African territory. This measure applies at all border points in the country.
