Discovering the wonders of Peru

Discovering the wonders of Peru

The birds of paradise will be singing as you wake up. A delicious breakfast will give you the energy you need for a morning full of new experiences.

COCHA PERDU

After breakfast, we'll begin an adventure through the rainforest, accompanied by our local guide, as we trek into the deep forest. We'll cross some of the trails on our interpretive circuit.

On the way to Cocha Perdida, we will identify species of fruit and medicinal trees that help animal populations to survive in the Amazon rainforests.

The rivers leave behind systems of swamp lakes such as the spectacular Lost Cocha.

Wetlands play an important ecological role, representing a biological hotbed with endemic species. They are a refuge for mammals.

Once inside the Lost Cocha, we climb up to a huge observation platform. From this vantage point, you can appreciate the enormous surface area of this magical place.

Afterwards, we'll take a pleasant walk around Cocha Perdue and, if you're lucky, spot the "giant otter", the largest of its kind and one of the most impressive animals in the Amazon.

Return to the lodge and lunch

ISLAND OF THE MONKEYS

In the afternoon, accompanied by a specialist guide, you will visit Monkey Island, located in the heart of the Madre de Dios river. You will finish this visit by enjoying a sunset over the selva.

Day trip to Chinchero, the salt flats of Maras and Ollantaytambo, with private English-speaking guide

Departure by private vehicle for the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Visit Chinchero, a quiet little town whose upper part is a veritable open-air museum. The cobbled streets, lined with craftsmen, seem frozen in time. They gently lead passers-by to the forecourt of a church whose whiteness contrasts with the magnificent surrounding mountains.

Discovery of the Maras salt flats.

Hundreds of small salt settling basins on the surface of the mountain are superimposed over a height of several hundred metres. The colours and light are spectacular. The salt is extracted using techniques that date back to the time of the Incas.

Tourist transport from Cusco to Puno - Grouped service / Avalos bus company

Departure for Puno by tourist bus for an 11-hour drive through the Altiplano. Along the way, you'll visit a number of sites of tourist interest:

The Baroque church of Andahuaylillas, also known as the "Sistine Chapel of the Andes" for its decoration, is a clear example of Andean religious folk art that is astonishing in its beauty. A veritable jewel of the mestizo Baroque architecture that developed in Cusco, the nave is amply decorated and its magnificent ceiling is covered in gilding.

108 km north of Puno, Pukara is the most important ceremonial centre in the Andean highlands. Its construction predates that of Tiwanacu and is characterised by a series of stepped platforms resembling a pyramid, known as Kalasaya. The first vestiges of the Andean culture of the Altiplano were discovered on this site. This village of ceramics is the birthplace of the famous Pucara toritos (bulls) that adorn Andean roofs as protectors. Other stone sculptures representing curious figures bear witness to a warrior civilisation.

Raqchi (121km from Cusco) is also known as the "Temple of the God Wiracocha". This Inca temple has monumental dimensions: 100m long, 28m wide and 14m high. It is divided into 2 parts, and in each of them we can see the bases of 11 gigantic columns built of perfectly cut stone and topped with adobes. We can also see, among other things, the "qolqas" or grain stores, the military and religious sectors, the walls and the Inca baths.
