Situated in the south-west between the Kampot region and the sea, Kep is Cambodia's smallest province. Famous at the time of the French protectorate and renamed "Kep-sur-Mer", it was then Cambodia's most popular seaside resort. A few prestigious buildings and villas still remain from that era, but unfortunately most of them were burnt down during the Khmer Rouge regime.
Kep also boasts a wealth of natural resources, including a national park, 'Rabbit Island' with its deserted beaches, rice fields, salt marshes and coastlines teeming with fish and crabs. In fact, we highly recommend sampling crab and seafood cooked with Kampot pepper in one of the restaurants close to the market!

Climate and equipment

Cambodia's climate is characterised by two highly influential monsoons, which alternate to mark the seasons:
From May to October, the south-west monsoon dominates, characterised by heavy rain and strong winds. It is very humid during this period. In contrast, the north-east monsoon, which blows from November to March, brings very little rain.
From April onwards, the heat and humidity become unbearable, but the best tourist sites will be less crowded and you'll be able to admire them at your own pace.

Health

No compulsory vaccination. Must be up to date with vaccinations.
Hepatitis A vaccination and anti-malaria treatment recommended.
