LUGGAGE
For your stay, please bring :
1 travel bag per person (or wheeled suitcase). Do not take luggage that is too bulky to avoid problems with vehicle congestion or logistical organisation.
On itinerant or semi-itinerant trips, also limit the weight to 10-12 kgs, as difficult access to some accommodation could compromise the delivery of luggage.
Avoid leaving fragile and/or valuable items in the car.
1 rucksack of around 30-40 litres with a waist belt and a well-ventilated back for your comfort. Limit the weight of all your belongings and your rucksack to a maximum of 10 kgs.
THE CLOTHES
1 suitable cycling outfit: cycling shorts, breathable T-shirt (long or short sleeves depending on the season)
1 pair of comfortable cycling trousers (chamois essential)
shoes suitable for cycling
comfortable clothes and shoes for the evening
underwear
breathable long-sleeved T-shirts (1 every 2-3 days) and 1 or 2 short-sleeved T-shirts
1 warm fleece jacket (or even a water-repellent "Softshell") or "Primaloft" jacket (warm and compressible)
1 waterproof and breathable "Gore-Tex" windproof jacket with hood
TAKE-AWAY EQUIPMENT
1 large plastic bag to slip into your rucksack to protect your belongings from the elements and/or 1 over-bag
1 waterproof folder containing: your assistance contract, identity papers, health insurance card and any other documents mentioned in the formalities section
1 pair of good-quality sunglasses (level 3 protection) + sun cream with a good sun protection factor and lip shield (all in the rucksack)
1 folding pocket knife (Opinel type)
for picnics: cutlery and 1 plastic can (minimum 0.5 litre) such as Tuperwear (essential even if it may not be used)
Toiletries and 1 quick-drying towel (focus on essentials, small sizes, eco-friendly soap...)
1 swimming costume
Earplugs or Ear plugs (to protect against neighbourhood snoring or other noise pollution)
1 sheet-bag, also known as a "meat bag", for night(s) in a dormitory (gîte and/or refuge)
handkerchiefs
toilet paper
1 lighter (be careful not to cause a fire; use only when necessary and with maximum caution)
1 headlamp or torch + survival blanket: always carry this in your rucksack, as an unforeseen delay due to an incident can happen even on an easy walk.
spare glasses (if you wear prescription glasses)
camera, binoculars, painting equipment... (optional)
Depending on the length of your stay (bike included / not included) or any rental options you may have taken out, it may be a good idea to bring some or all of the following equipment with you (see also the "bike hire" section to check what may be provided...):
cycling gloves, short or long depending on the season
1 bicycle helmet (compulsory)
1 or 2 bicycle water bottles or 1 1.5-litre Camel Back-type backpack (your choice)
2 inner tubes
a few spare spokes (especially for mountain biking trips)
1 derailleur hanger known as a "fuse hanger
1 set of brake pads
1 derailleur cable, brake cable
1 spare chain
any other equipment you consider essential...
You'll need to be self-sufficient to deal with the usual minor breakdowns that occur during a holiday (tyre levers, patches, multi-tools, quick links, etc.). If you have disc brakes or sophisticated bikes, make sure you have the appropriate repair equipment.
